Gambling participation
Overall
- 70-90% of Australian adults gamble on at least on form of gambling at least once per year.
‘Regular’ gambling
- 40% of the adult population gamblers at least once per week, on at least one form of gambling.
By types of gambling
- 60% of the Australian adult population reported gambling on lotteries at least once per year.
- 25% of the adult population reported gambling on lotteries at least once per week.
- Scratch tickets and electronic gaming machines have an overall participation rate each of approximately 35%, with weekly participation rates of between 4 to 7%.
- Wagering has a reported participation rate of between 20-25% (weekly rate of 4%).
- Keno has a participation rate of 15-20% (weekly rate of less than 2%).
- All other activities (sports betting, casino games, internet gambling and bingo) have an overall reported participation rate of less than 10% (weekly rates of around 1%).
